We may be biased, but we think we have the very best jobs in the world. We get to help people positively change the trajectory of their lives by empowering them to go after the position of their dreams. We equip job seekers with professionally written career marketing documents that showcase their unique value proposition.

The Briefcase Coach has been named the top resume writing firm for experienced executives. Founder, Sarah Johnston, has been named a LinkedIn Top Voice and one of the most influential global HR leaders by HR Weekly. We work with thoughtful leaders across a range of industries. It is always our goal to over-deliver.

Job Description: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced writer to join our team. The ideal candidate should have experience writing under high-pressure circumstances, whether during a demanding PhD program, serving corporate copywriting clients, or working as an executive resume writer.

  • The position is responsible for researching, writing, and producing customized, high-quality resumes that effectively showcase clients’ leadership abilities, accomplishments, and qualifications.
  • Conduct thorough research on clients’ industries, target roles, and competitors to ensure the resumes are strategically aligned.
  • Collaborate with clients to gather necessary information and feedback, and iterate on drafts until satisfaction is achieved.
  • Stay up-to-date on the latest trends, best practices, and standards in resume writing, formatting, and design.
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality when handling clients’ sensitive information.

  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills with a keen eye for detail.
  • Proficiency in adapting writing and formatting styles to align with firm standards and industry best practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with clients and team members.
  • Ability to handle at least one new project per week while maintaining high quality and meeting deadlines.
  • Strong understanding of executive-level job market trends, recruitment processes, and hiring practices.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with an advanced degree in English, Humanities, Communications, Human Resources, or a related field.
  • Cares about people. We are in the people business. Our work directly impacts people’s livelihoods.
  •  Respect for confidentiality and a strong sense of professional ethics.
  •  High degree of diplomacy, discretion, and tact.

What makes this role unique:

  • The resume writer is not client-facing. The writer partners with an executive branding strategist on every client assignment. The branding strategist conducts a 90-minute to 2-hour intake interview and shares notes and branding strategy with the executive writer.
  • Briefcase Coach truly values excellent writing and pays a higher project rate than other executive resume writing firms.
  • Briefcase Coach provides optional Lunch & Learns with industry experts to help you continue to learn and upskill.
  • We have one of the best reputations in the writing industry. We will do whatever we can to ensure our clients have a positive experience.  We have all 5-star reviews online.

What it’s like working with the Briefcase Coach: This is a small business (a fancier description is it’s a boutique executive coaching practice). We don’t use the phrase “work family” because that’s toxic branding. But we are small enough to care. The owner is a parent and works very hard but maintains a flexible schedule.

To apply, please email your resume and a cover letter explaining why you are interested in this opportunity to Sarah@Briefcasecoach.com. We will actually read the cover letter. (Ps. Even though we are in the resume business, we don’t expect you to have a perfect resume. Please don’t overthink the resume.)
